HOW WE ENDORSE CANDIDATES

The NC NOW PAC endorses candidates for state-level office: the NC House and NC Senate, NC Supreme Court and Appeals Courts judges, and for the elected members of the NC Council of State:

• Governor
• Lieutenant Governor
• Attorney General
• Commissioner of Agriculture
• Commissioner of Insurance
• Secretary of State
• Secretary of Labor
• State Auditor
• State Treasurer
• Superintendent of Public Instruction

NC NOW also makes recommendations to the National NOW PAC about North Carolina candidates for federal office, including President, U.S. House and Senate.

NC NOW PAC typically does not endorse candidates for local and municipal offices.

Our endorsements are based on personal interviews with each candidate. We narrow the list initially based on candidates’ public statements and websites, if available. Some candidates reach out to us for an endorsement, but most of the time we reach out to them to schedule an interview.

Each election cycle, we develop a set of interview questions that will reflect the candidate’s views on NOW’s six core issues as well as many current issues facing women, girls, and LGBTQ+ persons in our state. The NC NOW PAC then reviews the interviewer’s notes and impressions, and votes on which candidates to endorse. Prior to the election, NC NOW mails an all-member statewide postcard with all of the PAC’s endorsed candidates to help voters at the polls.

We always need plenty of people to interview candidates! NC NOW PAC identifies the potential candidates and develops the interview questions.
